oba Femi Retains NXT Championship in Thrilling Battle with Je’Von Evans at Heatwave
“The Ruler of NXT” Oba Femi successfully defended his WWE NXT Championship against “The Young OG” Je’Von Evans in a hard-fought match at Heatwave on August 24, 2025. The contest was a back-and-forth affair filled with high-risk maneuvers and dramatic near falls.
The match began with a pie face from Evans to Femi, followed by verbal exchanges. Evans then landed a forearm and punches, while avoiding strikes from Oba. He continued his offense with punches in the corner, sending Femi to the apron before responding with a punch of his own. Evans showcased his athleticism with a springboard clothesline and a rebound round kick, earning a near fall.
Oba attempted a slam, but Evans countered with a DDT.Evans climbed to the turnbuckles and executed a frog splash, though he appeared to possibly injure his knee on the landing. he briefly returned to the apron and followed with another frog splash, resulting in another near fall.
The momentum shifted as Evans landed punches to Oba’s midsection.Oba responded with a forearm to the jaw and a boot. Evans then executed a German suplex, only for Oba to quickly pop up and deliver a clothesline. Oba followed with two running uppercuts into the corner, but Evans surprised him with a cutter as Oba whent for a third. A forearm from Oba as Evans came off the ropes during a double jump cutter attempt led to another near fall for oba.
Oba lifted Evans to the turnbuckles, but Evans countered with elbows and moved to the apron. He set up for a move off the turnbuckles, but Oba pushed him off, causing Evans to accidentally strike the referee. Oba blocked a Frankensteiner attempt and went for a powerbomb, which Evans countered with a rana. Evans then hit a cutter and a double jump cutter, covering for a pinfall. However, the original referee signaled that Oba’s foot was under the rope, and the match continued.
Evans attempted a twisting splash off the turnbuckles but missed. Oba capitalized, tossing Evans from the ring and through the announce desk. He then sent Evans back into the ring and finished the match with a pop-up powerbomb for the victory.
Following the match, highlights were shown.Ricky Saints then entered the ring to confront the newly victorious Oba Femi as he celebrated. The two men faced off as the show concluded with the Executive Producer credits.
