French Singer Patrick Sébastien Plans Political Role Following Criticism of Alain SouchonS Remarks on Far-Right Voters
Paris, France – Entertainer Patrick Sébastien is preparing to actively engage in the 2027 French presidential election, collecting policy proposals from citizens to present to candidates, following a public disagreement sparked by singer Alain souchon’s comments about voters perhaps supporting the National Front (now Rassemblement National). Souchon stated on Friday that he doubted “the French are stupid enough to elect someone from the National Front to lead.”
Sébastien, author of the recently published book Not even afraid, characterized Souchon’s statement as dismissive and out of touch. Sébastien Chenu,a deputy from the North, echoed this sentiment, describing Souchon’s words as “displaced, disconnected and contemptuous” in a Sunday appearance on The Grand Jury RTL-Public Senate- Le Figaro-M6.Chenu countered that French citizens are ”intelligent enough to break with all the policies that make them unhappy.” The exchange highlights a growing tension surrounding perceptions of the electorate and the potential rise of far-right political movements in France.
Sébastien clarified on BFM television November 17th that while he intends to be a significant voice in the upcoming election cycle, he does not plan to run for president himself. Instead, he is focusing on gathering input directly from the French public to inform the platforms of potential candidates. This initiative aims to ensure that the concerns of everyday citizens are addressed during the campaign.
