EDINBURG, TEXAS – The UTRGV Women’s Tennis team dominated the second day of the H-E-B Invitational, securing seven victories across multiple draws on October 27, 2023. Players advanced to several finals and playoff matches,showcasing strong performances against competitors from institutions including the University of Incarnate Word,Texas A&M University,the University of Dayton,Rice University,and the University of Texas at San Antonio.
The H-E-B Invitational provides a crucial early-season opportunity for the Vaqueros to gauge their skill level against a diverse field of opponents and refine their strategies before the spring dual match season.Success in these individual tournaments builds momentum and confidence for the team as they strive for continued improvement throughout the year.
Barbara Martinez defeated Elizabeth Isyanov (UI) in the Green draw West Finals, beginning the day with a 10 a.m. match.Later in the day, Madeleine Joffe faced Hana Becirovic Novak (UD) in the Purple Draw South at noon.
Hitakamya Narwal also secured a win in the Orange Draw West Finals against Avery Esquivel (TAMU), also at noon. Luna Buijtenhuijs competed in the Yellow Draw 3-4 Playoff against Natali Jaiani (UD) at 12:30 p.m. rhea Makesar battled Valentina Ponce Serrano (Rice) in the Yellow Draw South,with the match also starting at 12:30 p.m.
Rounding out UTRGV’s accomplished day,Mariia Bakhtina took on Ayra Salim (UTSA) and Valentina Urraco played Simryn Jacob (KU) in the Pink Draw East Finals,both matches commencing at 12:30 p.m.
