College of Charleston Women’s Soccer Concludes Season in 0-0 Tie at Elon
ELON, N.C. – The College of Charleston women’s soccer team concluded its season with a scoreless draw against Elon University on Saturday,finishing with an overall record of 8-6-3 and a 4-3-2 mark in conference play.Despite multiple scoring opportunities,neither team could find the back of the net in the tightly contested match.
The Cougars faced a resilient Elon defense, with Avery Nassetta, Faith Slimmer, and Caroline Fowlkes each recording shots on goal in the frist half that were ultimately saved. Charleston continued to press in the second half, outshooting Elon nine to seven, including a final attempt by fowlkes in the 88th minute. The draw marks the end of a accomplished season for the Cougars and the collegiate career of standout senior Faith Slimmer.
Slimmer led the Cougars’ offensive efforts with a game-high five shots, two on target, and played the entirety of the 90-minute contest. She finishes her career ranked sixth in program history with 18 goals and fourth with 18 assists. Freshman defender Maderia Gwozdo also played all 90 minutes, proving essential to Charleston’s backline.
Throughout the season, five Cougars scored four or more goals, including seniors Emma Wennar and Nassetta. Bella Antonio led the team in points with 14, tallying five goals and four assists. Wennar recorded a team-high 64 shots, with 30 on target.
Several Charleston players also achieved personal milestones this season, with maggie Heffernan, Sienna Petro, Ellie Stewart, and Emma Stankunas each scoring their first career goals. heffernan led the group with five goals, including two in the team’s first CAA matchup against Monmouth.
