Tisha England Ascends to Director of Athletic Operations at CVCC
Red Hawk Athletics Welcomes New Era Under England’s Leadership
Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) is celebrating a significant leadership transition within its athletic department as Tisha England steps into the newly established role of Director of Athletic Operations and Intramurals for Red Hawk Athletics.
Broadening Impact Beyond the Court
In her expanded capacity, England will now manage all departmental operations. A key initiative under her direction will be the creation of a new intramural sports program aimed at significantly increasing student engagement and diversifying recreational opportunities campus-wide.
“All glory and honor is unto the Lord. I am grateful to be under a wonderful leadership that understands success is more than a sport. It is about preparing young athletes for life, building teams with character, integrity, great work ethic, discipline, and positive long-lasting relationships. I look for to elevating CVCC to the highest competition and academic level. We are Red Hawk Strong.”

A Legacy of Success at CVCC
England has been an integral part of Red Hawk Athletics since 2011, initially serving as an assistant women’s basketball coach. She was elevated to head women’s basketball coach for the 2013-14 season, where she forged a remarkable twelve-year tenure.
Under her coaching guidance, the women’s basketball program achieved a 210-115 record. This impressive performance included two conference championships and two runner-up finishes in the Region 10 Tournament. Notably, she led the Red Hawks to their inaugural national tournament appearance in 2023.
Beyond athletic achievements, England‘s commitment to student development was evident. Over 100 student-athletes graduated and pursued higher education opportunities. Her teams consistently excelled academically, with ten squads earning the NJCAA Academic Team of Distinction honor for maintaining a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Strategic Leadership and Future Growth
England holds a Master of Science in Sports Management from Western Carolina University. She will report to Executive Director of Student Life, Nick Schroeder, the former CVCC Athletic Director.
The transition also sees longtime assistant and CVCC alumna Nikkyana McCaskill stepping into the head women’s basketball coaching position, ensuring continuity and a continued passion for the program.
“Tisha has built a legacy defined by excellence, opportunity and student success,” stated Schroeder. “Her leadership in this expanded role will benefit the entire college community, and with Nikkyana stepping in as head coach, Red Hawk Athletics is poised for continued growth.”
Collegiate athletics continue to emphasize holistic student development, a trend reflected in organizations like the NCAA, which reported in 2024 that over 170,000 student-athletes participated across all NCAA divisions, highlighting the significant impact of sports on college life.
