GAINESVILLE, FL – A new gym in Gainesville, Florida, is aiming to address a common barrier to fitness for women: intimidation. Peach by Pump, which opened four months ago, offers a women-only space for workouts, complete with 24/7 access and a focus on building a supportive community.
“Being women-only is definitely our biggest advantage. Second is 24/7 access,” said Brandi Krytusa, corporate leader and group class trainer at Peach by Pump. The gym is strategically located on University Avenue, near several popular apartment complexes including Nine 31, Sweetwater, and the Hub.
Bian Brousset, an employee at Peach by Pump and a University of Florida student, discovered the gym whereas walking by. “I was walking by right before we opened and I saw the QR code and the little peach symbol, and I thought, I have to know what this is,” Brousset said. She is currently pursuing certification as a group fitness instructor through the UF student recreation center.
Brousset noted the gym has become a welcoming space for a diverse clientele. “Many of our members are part of the Hispanic community,” she said, adding that she and another employee both speak Spanish, facilitating connections among members. Valentina Caballero, a Hispanic member, described the gym as “life-changing,” stating she now visits at least once or twice a day.
Caballero said she has found a strong sense of community at Peach by Pump, connecting with both other Hispanic women and staff members her age. “The staff is extremely warm and welcoming,” Krytusa added, emphasizing the gym’s commitment to supporting women in their health and fitness journeys.
Initially experiencing a gradual start, membership at Peach by Pump doubled with the return of students for the spring semester, according to Krytusa. The gym’s clientele is now evenly split between college students and older women with children. Peach by Pump offers both group fitness classes and open gym access, a combination Krytusa believes sets it apart from other fitness studios in the area.
“You offer more value with your membership,” Krytusa explained. All-access passes are priced at $129 per month, while gym-only access is available for $89 per month.
Brousset highlighted the unique atmosphere at Peach by Pump, contrasting it with her experiences at other gyms. “I’ve trained at Crunch and other places, and here the experience is totally different,” she said. She also noted the gym’s environment has been particularly welcoming to Muslim women, some of whom perceive comfortable removing their hijabs within the private, women-only space, which features blackout windows.
Krytusa encourages those interested in learning more to schedule a visit or simply stop by. Caballero enthusiastically recommended the gym, stating, “Peach is the best! If you start coming you will witness the difference, in your body, in your mood, emotionally, personally, in everything! I definitely recommend it.”
