Colombian Female Artists See Fivefold Streaming Increase, Driven by Female Fans, Spotify reports
BOGOTÁ, Colombia – A surge in streams and catalog growth is cementing Colombian female artists’ position on the global stage, fueled by a dedicated fanbase that is overwhelmingly female, according to new data released by Spotify. Streams of female artists in Colombia have increased fivefold over the past five years, alongside a 36% expansion of the catalog of songs by Colombian women. Globally, streams of Colombian female artists have grown 170 times in the last decade.
The data reveals that 58% of listeners of female artists in Colombia are women, demonstrating a powerful ecosystem of support within the country. This momentum was further explored at Spotify’s third annual Empowerment Days event, held recently at Casa Spotify Bogotá.
Designed for and by women in the music industry, Empowerment Days is a key component of Spotify’s global EQUAL initiative, which has supported over 1,200 artist ambassadors worldwide. The event brought together managers, producers, artists, and creators to address the unique challenges women face in music.
“The industry has evolved greatly in the decade Spotify has been in Latin America, and women’s roles have shifted as well,” said Mia Nygren, Managing Director for Latin America at Spotify. “The numbers reflect this-not only in streams, but also in royalties. Still, we know there’s much more to be done, and that’s why we continue creating spaces and initiatives to promote and spotlight women in music.”
A panel discussion at Empowerment Days featured Nygren alongside manager Rebeca León and singer-songwriter Elena Rose, who discussed topics including education, independence, and financial literacy. Spotify’s EQUAL initiative aims to continue championing women artists and creators both on and off the platform.
