Woman Struck by Sarmiento Train at Liniers Station

August 24, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

A passenger train on Argentina’s Sarmiento railway line struck a 60-year-old woman crossing the tracks at the Liniers station level crossing on August 24, 2026, causing significant morning commute disruptions, according to reports from Infobae and TN. The victim sustained multiple traumas and was transported alive to the Hospital Santojanni by emergency medical services, where medical staff successfully stabilized her condition.

Incident Details and Emergency Response at Cuzco Level Crossing

The collision occurred at approximately 6:00 to 6:15 a.m. local time at the Cuzco street level crossing, situated between Rivadavia Avenue and Ángel Honorio Roffo street. According to police sources cited by Infobae, the pedestrian was struck by an inbound commuter train that was heavily crowded with morning passengers. Emergency dispatchers coordinated an immediate multi-agency response.

Personnel from the City Police, City Fire Department—including firefighters from the Versalles station, as noted by TN—and state operator Trenes Argentinos rushed to the scene. Paramedics from the Emergency Medical Care System (SAME) treated the 60-year-old victim on-site before transferring her via ambulance to the Hospital Santojanni, located roughly two kilometers away, where she was admitted with multiple contusions and polytrauma.

Following the impact, the involved train remained halted on the tracks. Passengers stranded inside the blocked carriages had to descend directly onto the ballast and walk along the tracks to reach the nearest platform. Commuters safely evacuated the area by 7:00 a.m., according to field reporting.

Infrastructure Impact and Regional Transit Adjustments

The accident forced immediate operational changes across the entire transport corridor. According to Infobae, Sarmiento line trains traveling toward Once station were restricted, and formations in both directions completely bypassed Liniers station. This bypass created a major congestion bottleneck, leaving massive crowds of commuters stranded on platforms while waiting for alternative transport options.

Forensic teams and technical personnel conducted mandatory peritajes (investigative perusals) on the stalled locomotive and carriages. By shortly before 8:00 a.m., authorities completed the on-site inspections, removed the train from the tracks, and officially reopened the Cuzco level crossing to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Normal service schedules across the wider rail network resumed shortly thereafter.
