Warrant of Arrest Issued for Jub Jub Maarohanye After Court No-Show
The Germiston Magistrate’s Court issued a warrant of arrest for South African media personality and musician Molemo Katleho Maarohanye, widely known as Jub Jub, after he failed to appear for a scheduled court date on Monday, August 24, according to eNCA and independent confirmation from the National Prosecuting Authority.
Court Absence and Arrest Warrant Details
According to the National Prosecuting Authority, Maarohanye missed his appearance at the Germiston Magistrates Court due to alleged health reasons, prompting the presiding magistrate to issue the warrant. His legal defence stated that the musician had been booked off sick beginning Thursday, August 20, as reported by IOL. To accommodate the medical leave, the court ordered that the arrest warrant remain unactivated until the proceedings resume on September 7, 2026, according to statements from NPA spokesperson Magaboke Mohlatlo cited by eNCA.
Underlying Firearm and Confrontation Charges
The legal proceedings stem from an incident on June 14 in Edenvale, where Maarohanye was arrested following a confrontation with an e-hailing driver. According to police details reported by IOL, the altercation began after the driver dropped off Maarohanye’s girlfriend at an Edenvale residence, leading the musician to accuse the driver of being in a romantic relationship with her. Investigators allege that Maarohanye forced the driver into a vehicle to prevent him from leaving and discharged a firearm in the driver’s direction. The e-hailing driver escaped unharmed and reported the incident to a local police station.
Bail History and Prior Legal Proceedings
Following his initial arrest in June, Maarohanye’s legal team filed an urgent application in the Johannesburg High Court to challenge delays in bringing him before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court and to secure bail. The High Court granted that application on June 16, releasing him on R5,000 bail, as noted by IOL. The Uyajola 9/9 presenter has faced previous high-profile legal matters, including a 2012 conviction related to a car crash that killed four schoolchildren, and a separate set of charges involving rape, attempted murder, and assault that were withdrawn in 2024.
The matter is scheduled to return to the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on September 7, 2026.
