Woman Critical After Surgical Gloves and Wipes Left in Abdomen During C-Section
Critical Condition Follows August 1 Procedure
A 19-year-old woman from Maharashtra’s Beed district is in critical condition after surgical gloves and paper napkins were allegedly left inside her abdomen during a Caesarean section at Beed district hospital, according to latestly.com. The patient, identified as Sandhya Suraj Gaikwad, underwent the childbirth procedure on August 1 and was discharged four days later before developing severe abdominal pain at home.
Private Clinic Warnings and Pune Transfer
According to her family, Sandhya began vomiting shortly after the operation, and her mother raised concerns with a nurse at the civil hospital before taking her home. As her condition deteriorated and abdominal pain intensified, the family consulted a private hospital. According to latestly.com, doctors at the private facility detected an unknown object inside her abdomen but indicated that treatment would involve significant expenses.
The family subsequently traveled to Pune seeking further medical care. After being turned away by another medical facility due to the severity of her condition, Sandhya was admitted to Sassoon Hospital in Pune. Surgeons there performed surgery and, according to her relatives, removed surgical gloves and paper from her abdomen.
Husband Demands Strict Accountability
Suraj Gaikwad, the patient’s husband, demanded strict action for the oversight. “My wife’s painful condition has happened only because of the doctors’ negligence,” Suraj said, as reported by Sakal via latestly.com. “Strictest action should be taken against the doctors responsible.”

District Health Authorities Launch Official Probe
The allegations have triggered an administrative response from the Beed district administration. Beed District Surgeon Dr Satishkumar Solanke confirmed that an official probe is underway to establish how the alleged surgical material came to be found inside the patient following the initial August 1 procedure at the district hospital. Authorities have issued show-cause notices to the woman doctor concerned and other health workers connected to the case as the investigation proceeds.
