Unexpected Twist in ‘Who is the Mole?’ Keeps All Candidates in the Game
A seemingly straightforward elimination round on the anniversary season of Who is the Mole? took a dramatic turn thanks to a surprising intervention by Art Rooijakkers. After completing twenty questions, Kim Pieters, Merel Westrik, Jurre Geluk, Loes Haverkort, and Nathan Rutjes initially received positive news from Rik van de westelaken and a green screen indicating their continued participation. However, Rik interrupted the proceedings to announce a special round of negotiations.
the five candidates were tasked with deciding the fate of Sahil Amar Aïssa and Anne-marie Jung. Anne-marie immediately recognized the parallel to the 2012 season, where she faced a similar situation. The stakes were high: unanimous agreement to proceed with the elimination would leave the pot untouched, while unanimous cancellation would add 3,000 euros. Though, any lack of unanimity would result in either a 3,000 euro deduction (for a failed elimination) or the complete emptying of the pot (for a failed cancellation).
Art Rooijakkers enforced strict rules, forbidding any group consultation and requiring candidates to negotiate in pre-determined pairs. This created intense pressure and forced each participant to strategize independently. “Then your brain starts chattering. What do I want?” Kim Pieters observed,questioning the possibility of achieving unanimous agreement in a game built on deception. Loes Haverkort echoed this sentiment, recognizing the potential for the Mole to manipulate the outcome.
Despite initial optimism, the vote ultimately resulted in disaster. On the fourth vote, a single candidate chose elimination, emptying the entire pot of 6,500 euros.Rik van de Westelaken noted the historical echo of the 2012 season.
In a stunning reversal, rik then announced that despite the loss of funds, all candidates would be advancing to the next episode.
