HOLLYWOOD, CA – February 27, 2024 – The televised special wicked: One Marvelous Night offered a glimpse behind the curtain of the highly anticipated film adaptation, but the five-hour taping event at the Dolby Theater contained exclusive content and moments not included in the broadcast.
Audience members, instructed too arrive by 4:30 p.m., experienced a marathon session concluding after 9:30 p.m. Many attendees embraced the occasion, arriving in Ozian inspired attire. Upon entry, attendees were required to secure their phones in Yondr pouches.
The event featured appearances from members of the Wicked press tour, including Matt Rogers,Bowen Yang’s The Bodybuilders co-star,and journalist Tracy E. Gilchrist, who recently interviewed the cast for Variety. Even cast members not directly involved in the special, such as Cesily collette Taylor (baby Nessarose), were present to support their colleagues. Director Jobs Men introduced exclusive clips from the film. Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and Bowen Yang previewed snippets of new songs from the second film, “No Place Like Home” and “The Girl in the Bubble,” and a live performance of “For Good” featuring Erivo and Grande, filmed at the Gershwin Theatre-footage ultimately reserved for the broadcast itself.
Several musical numbers required multiple takes. Cynthia Erivo initially stumbled over lyrics during the bridge of “The Wizard and I,” accompanied by Jeff Goldblum on piano, and re-recorded the song. She also performed “Defying Gravity” twice; while the first take was flawless, additional camera angles necessitated a second, equally well-received rendition.
