Chevy Silverado Earns Top Marks in J.D. Power Dependability Study
DETROIT – The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has been named the most dependable large pickup truck by J.D. Power, according to the firm’s 2024 U.S. vehicle Dependability Study (VDS). The study measures the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100) after three years of ownership, with a lower score indicating greater dependability. The Silverado achieved a score of 85 out of 100 in dealership experience, a consistent rating for the past three years.
This recognition comes as Chevrolet continues to refine the Silverado, offering a range of configurations - three cab options, two bed sizes, and multiple engine choices including a 2.7-liter turbocharged I-4,a 3.0-liter Duramax diesel, a 5.3-liter EcoTec V8, and a 6.2-liter EcoTec V8 – paired with eight- or ten-speed automatic transmissions. While the Silverado isn’t the largest pickup on the market, features like four-wheel steering enhance maneuverability, notably appealing to city drivers and those navigating construction sites.
Despite generally positive owner feedback, Chevrolet acknowledges areas for improvement. Recent owner concerns, voiced in online forums like Silverado Facebook groups, have centered around issues such as persistent check engine lights and malfunctioning digital dashboards, as well as criticisms regarding plain interior design on lower trims and ride harshness.
The 2025 Silverado starts at $37,000 plus tax, destination, freight, and dealer charges and includes modern features like Apple CarPlay and Android auto compatibility via the Infotainment 3 system,a digital instrument panel, and standard safety technologies like forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, and lane keep assist. J.D. power’s separate survey of dealership experience further reinforces Chevrolet’s commitment to customer satisfaction.
