Who Will Replace Altrad as France Rugby’s Shirt Sponsor?
France Rugby has signed a document to conclude its decade-long front-of-shirt partnership with construction firm Altrad, with the agreement officially ending in July 2027. The French Rugby Federation now faces the task of replacing a €10m sponsorship asset ahead of the upcoming Nations Championship and the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
The Decade-Long Partnership Reaches Its Final Year
Rugby’s top ten nations rely heavily on commercial agreements. Front-of-shirt placements serve as the most lucrative income stream.
Teams participating in the Nations Championship feature major shirt sponsors such as O2, Vodafone, Vittoria, Altrad, Cadbury, and FNB. For Altrad, founded by Syrian-born French resident Mohed Altrad, the current season marks the final year adorning the front of the Les Bleus jersey.
The French Rugby Federation signed the paperwork this week to terminate the partnership effective July 2027. International rugby regulations prohibit commercial partners on team jerseys during a World Cup.

Federation Seeks Replacements for Multi-Million-Euro Sponsorship
However, the brand that eventually succeeds Altrad will secure direct marketing links with a French squad widely considered among the favorites to lift the trophy in Australia next summer, as noted by cityam.com.
Finding a replacement requires working within a limited pool of corporations capable of supporting a multi-million-euro commitment. Laurence Miller of Red Tiger Marketing told cityam.com that France possesses a €10m shirt to sell alongside a small buyer pool, suggesting the federation should look beyond traditional rugby sponsors toward Chinese car manufacturers and artificial intelligence companies.
Targeting Decision-Makers in Tech and Finance
Industry analysts point out distinctive demographic traits within the French rugby fanbase that appeal directly to modern enterprise brands. Miller noted to cityam.com that French rugby supporters are a third more likely than average to be business decision-makers and 36 percent more likely to serve as senior managers.
This profile matches the target audience for B2B technology, AI, and financial services firms such as Mistral AI, Alan, Qonto, and Pennylane, the latter of which already sponsors the Top 14 finals.
Weighing Domestic Heavyweights Against Shipping Giants
While emerging tech firms eye the space, established multinational corporations also remain viable contenders for the jersey vacancy.
Steve Martin of MSQ Sport + Entertainment told cityam.com that the team’s market value benefits significantly from being built around Antoine Dupont, widely recognized as one of the sport’s most marketable players. Martin also highlighted several major domestic brands with existing market presence, pointing to Orange, Axa, and Michelin as logical possibilities.
In addition to these traditional heavyweights, shipping conglomerate CMA CGM has emerged in the market as another key entity to monitor as negotiations progress toward the 2027 transition.
Meanwhile, rival federations like England continue to aggressively commercialize their operations, having recently renewed deals with O2 while integrating Lloyds and Allianz into back-of-shirt and stadium naming rights.
