First Supermoon of 2024 to Illuminate Skies This Week
Skywatchers are poised to witness the first supermoon of the year, peaking on Thursday, January 25th. The full moon will appear noticeably larger adn brighter than usual, offering a stunning celestial display.
This supermoon, also known as the Wolf moon, occurs when the moon is at its closest point to earth in its orbit – a phenomenon called perigee.This proximity results in a moon that appears up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than a typical full moon. Supermoons are always full moons, but not all full moons are supermoons. Typically, there are three to four supermoons each year, offering frequent opportunities for stunning lunar views.
