WhatsApp Overload After Bavarian Party Night
Michael Koller, the newly elected Landrat (district administrator) of the Berchtesgadener Land region, was still responding to congratulatory messages more than twelve hours after securing a decisive victory in the local elections. Approximately 500 WhatsApp messages remained unanswered as of Monday morning, following a celebratory gathering that lasted until 4:00 AM at the Pfarrheim in Berchtesgaden.
Koller, representing the Freie Wähler (Free Voters) party, expressed surprise at the scale of his win. “That it would become such a clear result, I would never have believed,” he told the Berchtesgadener Anzeiger. He reportedly secured 64.6 percent of the vote, a margin he had not anticipated. “I noticed in recent weeks that I was receiving a lot of sympathy,” Koller said, “but this result really touched me.”
