WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new “Remind me” feature that allows users to set reminders for specific messages within the app. This functionality was discovered in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android by WABetaInfo.
The “Remind me” feature enables users to long-press any message, select the “Remind me” option, and then choose from predefined intervals of 2 hours, 8 hours, or 24 hours, or set a custom time.Once a reminder is configured, the message will display a small bell icon, making it easily identifiable within a conversation thread. When the set time elapses, WhatsApp will send a notification tagged with “🔔Reminder,” which includes the message content, the originating chat, and a preview of any attached media, similar to standard notifications.
Proactive Reminders Also in Development
In addition to the manual reminder feature, WABetaInfo also indicates that whatsapp is testing a system for proactive reminders. This new functionality aims to notify users about unread messages from contacts thay frequently interact with. The purpose is to help users who may be managing multiple conversations and could inadvertently miss messages from their most frequent contacts.
As with all features in beta testing, there is no confirmed launch date. The development team will continue to monitor for further testing and potential expansion of these features to iOS.
