Threats made via WhatsApp messages are central to the investigation into the death of 22-year-old Reinalda Carrasco, whose body was found in a cistern in San Antonio de Guerra, Santo Domingo province, on Sunday, authorities announced Monday.
According to Colonel Diego Pesqueira, spokesperson for the Dominican National Police, preliminary investigations reveal the messages contained threats from a suspect against Carrasco. “Conforme a las investigaciones preliminares que estamos haciendo, hay mensajes de WhatsApp que indican que él amenazaba a la hoy occisa con matarla, con quitarle la vida,” Pesqueira stated during a press conference.
Police have apprehended three individuals believed to be involved in the crime and are actively pursuing a man known only as “El Patrón,” identified as Carrasco’s romantic partner. Pesqueira indicated that “El Patrón” is believed to be armed and urged him to surrender to authorities. “Estamos tratando de identificarlo con su nombre, pero ya tenemos informes que nos van a permitir ubicarlo,” he said.
Investigators are working to confirm the identity of “El Patrón” through images provided by a sister of the victim. Carrasco’s body was recovered from the cistern with the assistance of the Fire Department. An initial examination revealed a contusive blow to the forehead as the likely cause of death, Pesqueira confirmed. “Al ser examinado su cadáver presenta un golpe contundente en la frente que le habría provocado la muerte,” he stated.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities continuing to gather evidence and corroborate details.
