Bitsbox, the popular coding subscription box for kids, is making meaningful strides in its mission to make coding accessible to a wider audience, especially within the education sector. The company has developed an education-specific version of its product designed to be more user-kind for teachers in school settings. This move aims to reach public schools and children who may not have the financial means to purchase the consumer version for personal use.

The service offers various subscription tiers for home users, including Digital, Basic, and Premium kits, with pricing that varies based on the package and subscription duration. For schools and homeschools, Bitsbox offers specialized options, such as project books organized by units or access to multiple coding levels together. The company has garnered positive feedback from both parents and educators, who ofen highlight the high level of engagement and enthusiasm children exhibit when designing their own applications.
In 2020, Bitsbox reported $11 million in lifetime revenue. Though, co-founder Aidan Chopra acknowledged that the company was operating at break-even due to increasing advertising and customer acquisition costs.By focusing on affordability and accessibility, particularly through its educational initiatives, Bitsbox aims to improve its financial standing while simultaneously working towards its broader vision.
Chopra expressed a strong belief in the transformative power of coding education, stating, “coding is one of the very few skills that allow you to jump many rungs on the socioeconomic ladder.” He envisions a future where coding is as commonplace as literacy, emphasizing that proficiency in coding can transcend socioeconomic backgrounds and provide individuals with opportunities for stable careers and geographic adaptability. Bitsbox’s strategic expansion into the educational market is a key step in realizing this vision, aiming to equip a new generation with a skill that can significantly impact their future prospects.
