Westmount: Man Rushes Into RCMP Headquarters After Possible Crisis

A 44-year-old man, described by police as “possibly in crisis” and perhaps experiencing mental health issues, drove his vehicle into teh entrance of the RCMP headquarters in Westmount on August 2, 2025. The incident occurred around 8:25 a.m. The man, who was transported to a hospital for treatment of his injuries, is not believed to be in life-threatening condition.

According to Jean-Pierre Brabant, a media relations agent for the Service de police de la Ville de MontrĂ©al (SPVM), the vehicle approached the building at a “constant speed,” not at high velocity. The SPVM was initially called to the scene to intervene with the man, who was on foot in front of the RCMP headquarters before taking control of his vehicle.

After the man drove his vehicle towards the building, police attempted to engage with the driver. The vehicle then proceeded into the building’s entrance. The only damage reported thus far includes shattered windows at the entrance. The vehicle involved has been towed. No other individuals inside the building were reported injured.

This event highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in responding to individuals experiencing mental health crises. The SPVM’s intervention strategy and the specific protocols for dealing with such situations at federal buildings like RCMP headquarters are key aspects of this incident.
