West Dunbartonshire: Winter Gritting & Safety Tips

West Dunbartonshire Council Deploys New Multi-purpose Gritters Ahead of Winter Season

West Dunbartonshire‌ Council is bolstering its winter preparedness with the deployment of five new multi-use gritters, ‌ready too tackle icy conditions and support ⁤year-round road maintainance. The vehicles, purchased earlier this year, represent a strategic investment in resource efficiency, eliminating the need for costly⁣ vehicle hire. Already utilized for tasks such as pothole repair throughout the year, the gritters are now primed for winter action.

These new vehicles feature multiple‌ bodies,allowing them to adapt to various road maintenance needs.​ Councillor David McBride, Convener of‍ Infrastructure, Regeneration​ and Economic Development, highlighted the value of the investment: “It is great to see these new multi-use vehicles getting ready for action this winter.They have already been showing their worth.” The Council is also reminding residents to prepare for‌ winter conditions.‍

The ⁤Council encourages residents to​ prioritize safety‌ during the colder months. Key recommendations include equipping vehicles‍ with a car emergency kit containing a first aid kit,⁣ battery jump leads, a torch, a map, a blanket, a ⁤reflective‌ warning ​sign, an ice ‌scraper, de-icer, a shovel, warm clothing, food, and a warm drink.

Residents‌ are ‌also advised to familiarize themselves with the Council’s priority primary gritting routes⁢ and the locations of grit bins, information available online at⁣ https://www.west-dunbarton.gov.uk/roads-parking-travel/gritting-and-grit-bins/winter-maintenance/.​

Councillor Lawrence O’Neill, ⁣Vice Convener of infrastructure, Regeneration & ⁤Economic Development, emphasized the proactive approach being taken: “The teams are⁢ busy monitoring ⁤detailed weather forecasts to understand what action needs to be taken ​and ‍when. We hope residents are ready too so if ice‍ and snow hits, the impact is not as severe as it might ⁤be otherwise.”
