Weapons” Director’s DC Script: “Henchmen” Details & “Resident Evil” Plans

Zach Cregger‘s DC Project “Henchmen” Could Feature Batman, Harley Quinn & Joker

Los Angeles, CA – August 29, 2025 – Following the accomplished release of his latest film, “Weapons,” director Zach Cregger is poised to tackle a unique DC Comics adaptation titled “Henchmen.” The project, a script Cregger penned years ago and considers his personal favorite, centers on a low-level criminal who unexpectedly incapacitates Batman, potentially bringing the Dark Knight, Harley Quinn, and the Joker into the narrative.

Cregger, known for his work on the critically acclaimed horror film “Barbarian,” is currently preparing to shoot a new “Resident Evil” movie in Prague this fall, described as a “relatively contained thriller” inspired directly by the video game franchise. He also has a top-secret sci-fi project in growth. Though, “Henchmen” remains a passion project for the director.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will follow a Gotham City henchman who achieves notoriety through sheer luck, managing to temporarily disable Batman. While The Dark Knight’s appearance is expected to be brief, the inclusion of Harley Quinn and the Joker adds notable weight to the project. The concept echoes the beloved “Batman: The Animated series” episode, “The Man Who Killed Batman,” and shares a similar tribute-style approach with mike flanagan’s planned “Clayface” film, inspired by the “Feat of Clay” episodes.

Despite Cregger’s enthusiasm, “Henchmen” hasn’t been formally pitched to DC Studios, though the company is reportedly aware of his interest. A key hurdle lies in the current state of DC’s Batman casting. With robert Pattinson set to reprise his role in “the Batman Part II,” scheduled to film in Spring 2026, and DC Studios searching for a new Batman for the broader DC Universe (DCU), navigating the character’s appearance presents a challenge.

The “Resident Evil” film, based on Capcom’s iconic video game series, aims to differentiate itself from previous adaptations by drawing heavily from the source material.Details remain scarce, but the project is envisioned as a focused thriller centered around a protagonist on a high-stakes mission. Production is slated to begin in Prague this fall, with locations scouted throughout the Czech republic, including potential filming sites in the city center and surrounding areas.
