Total Mayhem Games announced today the next installment in the We Were Here series, titled We Were Here Tomorrow. The cooperative puzzle game will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam in 2026, marking a significant shift for the franchise with a new retro-futuristic setting.

The new game transports players to the Norcek facility, a retro-futuristic complex described as filled with “strange technology, unsettling secrets, and unanswered questions.” Players, known as the Explorers, will undertake missions to uncover the truth behind the facility and their presence within it. We Were Here Tomorrow builds upon the series’ foundation of communication and trust, requiring players to solve puzzles using a walkie-talkie system, but introduces asymmetric gameplay and unique character abilities for the first time.

According to a statement released by Total Mayhem Games, each Explorer will have a distinct experience and set of abilities, necessitating clear communication and reliance on each other’s perspectives to progress. Puzzles are designed to be asymmetrical, meaning each player possesses only a portion of the information needed for a solution. The game has already garnered over 25 million players worldwide across previous installments, establishing a reputation for inventive puzzle design focused on cooperative problem-solving.

IGN’s coverage of the announcement highlighted that players will often be separated during assignments, relying heavily on their communication tools to overcome challenges. The puzzles introduced in We Were Here Tomorrow are designed to be solved only through cooperation and trust, emphasizing the core tenets of the series. A debut trailer released today showcases the game’s retro-futuristic aesthetic and hints at the complex puzzles awaiting players.

We Were Here Tomorrow is now available to wishlist on Steam. Total Mayhem Games has not yet announced a specific release date beyond 2026.
