One person died Sunday morning after a vehicle left Main Street in Waterville, Maine, and crashed into a parking lot at The Big Apple Convenience Store, striking both a parked car and a pedestrian, according to Waterville Police.
Officers responded to the scene at approximately 11:20 a.m. Sunday. Investigators believe the vehicle veered off Main Street and entered the convenience store parking lot, colliding with a vehicle that was at a gas pump. A pedestrian present in the parking lot was also struck and sustained fatal injuries.
Authorities have not yet released the name of the pedestrian, pending notification of family members. Details regarding the driver of the vehicle involved, and any potential charges, have not been disclosed.
The Maine State Police are assisting Waterville Police with crash reconstruction, and the investigation remains ongoing. A section of Main Street near The Big Apple Convenience Store was closed Sunday afternoon, and police are advising motorists to avoid the area for the foreseeable future.
