Watch Moby Perform Father Ted Favourite My Lovely Horse Live in Dublin
Electronic music pioneer Moby performed a live rendition of the classic Father Ted comedy song “My Lovely Horse” during his concert at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham in Dublin on August 21. The performance anchors a broader European tour supporting his latest studio album, Future Quiet.
Bringing “My Lovely Horse” Back to the Dublin Stage
During the latter portion of his Dublin setlist, Moby addressed the crowd by introducing the track with the remark, “If you need a new national anthem, may I suggest this song?” The piece originally featured in the Father Ted episode “A Song For Europe,” where characters Ted and Dougal attempt to represent Ireland in the fictional Eurosong competition, ultimately finishing with “nul points.” Written by The Divine Comedy’s Neil Hannon alongside show creators Graham Linehan and Arthur Matthews, the track later appeared as a B-side on The Divine Comedy’s 1999 single “Gin Soaked Boy.”

The recent live performance follows a precedent. Moby previously played the song live in 2001 alongside Father Dougal actor Ardal O’Hanlon before a crowd of approximately 80,000 people at Slane Castle in Ireland. The satirical track also received renewed public attention earlier in the year when Irish broadcaster RTÉ aired “A Song For Europe” in place of the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest, following Ireland’s decision to boycott the event over Israel’s participation.
Tour Logistics and European Market Dynamics
At a prior show on Brighton Beach, Moby addressed the crowd regarding the United Kingdom’s foundational role in developing early rave culture, praising British DJs and promoters for transforming house music into a communal experience during his visits in the early 1990s.
