Washington Huskies Women’s Basketball Defeat San Jose State 80-54

SEATTLE – The Washington Huskies women’s basketball team extended its perfect start​ to the season wiht an 80-54 victory over San Jose state Monday night at Alaska Airlines Arena, moving to 8-0 overall. The Huskies’ ​dominant performance was fueled by hot shooting and a commanding presence on the boards.

Washington shot 40.9% from three-point range, ⁤its second-highest percentage of the season,⁣ and found its rhythm in the second (55.6%) and fourth (54.5%) quarters. A decisive 26-11 run in ‍the ⁣second quarter propelled UW to a lead it would not relinquish.

The Huskies‌ controlled the glass, finishing with a 49-28 rebounding advantage, including 22 offensive rebounds that translated into 30 second-chance points.

Junior guard Sayvia Sellers led all scorers with 29 points on 9-for-16 shooting, including five three-pointers. Her second three-pointer of the night marked her 900th career⁣ point as ⁢a Husky. ​Avery Howell added 17 points, six rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and two steals, highlighted by a four-point play.

Freshman Brynn McGaughy continued to impress, contributing 15 points on 6-for-11 shooting, along with a team-high eight rebounds⁢ and four blocks. Devin Coppinger dished out three ‌assists and added six rebounds and four‍ points as Washington totaled 13 assists‍ on the night.

The Huskies will‌ next travel to Los angeles to face USC on sunday, Dec.7 at 5:00 p.m. in the Galen Center.
