WARSAW, VA – william Thomas “Tom” Light sr., 76, a longtime Warsaw resident and respected builder, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 5, 2025. Born March 6, 1949, in Richmond, Virginia, Mr. Light was the son of the late Moore and Frances Light.
A dedicated family man, Tom was the owner and operator of Lighthouse Builders. He shared a lifelong passion for sailing with his wife, Jean, together exploring the waterways of the James and Rappahannock rivers, and the Chesapeake Bay. He particularly enjoyed cruising the upper Chesapeake Bay, frequently visiting Annapolis, St. Michaels, Oxford, and Cambridge.
Mr. Light proudly served in the U.S. Army and remained an active member of the Rappahannock Rifle and pistol Club. He was a devoted and faithful member of Oakland United Methodist Church, where he generously contributed his time and leadership by chairing and serving on numerous committees.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; daughters, Rebecca Light and Katherine Light; son, William Light; extended family members Kevin Frith (and wife, Emily) and Blake Harper; and grandchildren, Liam Light and Scarlett Frith. He is also survived by his brother, Harold Light (and wife, Beverly).
A visitation was held Wednesday, October 8, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home, 10300 Richmond Road, Warsaw. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 9, at Oakland United Methodist Church, 3223 Oakland Road, Farnham, followed by interment at Farnham Baptist Church Cemetery, 4632 Farnham Creek Road, Farnham. A reception will follow at the Farnham Baptist Church Reception Hall.
