A woman died Monday evening after experiencing a medical emergency while riding the Haunted Mansion attraction at Disneyland, authorities said.
Anaheim Fire & Rescue responded to the park at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 6 for a report of an unresponsive woman in her 60s who had just disembarked the ride, according to Sgt. Matt Sutter, a spokesperson for the Anaheim Police Department.
Disneyland security personnel initiated CPR until paramedics arrived and transported the woman to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, Sutter said. The Orange County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office will determine the official cause of death.
Officials have not released the woman’s name, age, or city of residence.
The incident was first reported by Matt Desmond, known as “Disney Scoop Guy” on social media, who shared the news on Twitter and Instagram. “Sending condolences to her family and loved ones,” Desmond wrote.
This is not the first time a medical emergency has occurred at the theme park, though fatalities are rare. Disneyland employs extensive safety measures and has medical staff on-site to respond to guest needs.
