Warframe’s The Old Peace Expansion Revealed: A Perilous Trip to Tau Unfolds Soon

Warframe Unveils Tau System, New Story Arcs at TennoCon

Next Year Promises Deep Dives into Game’s Lore and Player Progression

Digital Extremes has mapped out the next year of Warframe, revealing major narrative expansions and gameplay enhancements that will propel players across time and space. The studio showcased upcoming content, including a significant exploration of the long-mysterious Tau system and the introduction of new characters tied to the game’s evolving lore.

Journey to Tau: A New Frontier

For the first time in the game’s decade-long history, players will physically journey to the Tau system, a pivotal location in Warframe’s intricate narrative. This system was the original destination for the Zariman Ten Zero, the vessel whose catastrophic event birthed the player characters, the Tenno. The Orokin Empire’s ambition for Tau’s resources fueled much of the conflict that shaped the game’s universe.

While the full exploration of Tau is slated for 2026, players will get their first glimpse in the upcoming “The Old Peace” expansion. This update will focus on a single planetary moon within the system, offering a crucial look into the past and its connection to the encroaching threat of the Indifference.

Players will explore past battles in the Tau system to uncover vital lost knowledge.

“The Old Peace” Expansion: Unraveling a Doomed Truce

The narrative focus of “The Old Peace” will be on rediscovering a forgotten peace that was ultimately doomed to fail. This expansion will delve into repressed memories, allowing Tenno to navigate a complex past involving familiar allies and a fragile accord. The story promises to shed new light on the ancient war between the Orokin and the Sentients, even introducing a forgotten childhood friend named **Adis**, a Sentient.

Players will confront truths that question their understanding of this era. Despite the Tenno’s efforts, including intervening against Orokin Dax warriors violating the peace, conflict is inevitable. The discoveries made on Tau’s moon, Perita, will be instrumental in preparing for the looming war against the Indifference.

Introducing The Devil’s Triad and Uriel

A new group of Orokin enforcers, known as The Devil’s Triad, will debut in “The Old Peace.” These visually striking zealots, reminiscent of Warhammer’s Inquisitors, appear tied to **Albrecht Entrati**, the figure who initiated contact with the Indifference and pioneered the Warframes. The Triad includes protoframe variants of Harrow and Wisp, named **Father Lyon Allard** and **Marie Leroux** respectively.

Their colleague, fully consumed by the Infestation’s steelskin, will become the game’s next Warframe: Uriel. This new frame aligns with the darker, more gothic tone of the expansion.

Caliban Prime and Operator Ability Enhancements

The expansion will also introduce Caliban Prime, a more powerful iteration of the Warframe that is a hybrid of Infestation and Sentient technology. This aligns perfectly with the narrative of a past alliance between the Tenno and Sentients, creating formidable tools lost to time.

Beyond new Warframes, player power will be amplified through significant upgrades to the Operator’s focus schools. Players invested in these skill trees will soon unlock potent ultimate abilities. Digital Extremes plans to share more details on these “Tauron” focus enhancements in upcoming Devstreams.

Further additions for the year include a rework for the Oberon Warframe, a new quest designed to guide new players in power progression, and exclusive skins for Valkyr and Lavos. The game’s active player base recently saw an increase, with SteamDB reporting over 100,000 concurrent players during peak hours in June 2024 (SteamDB), indicating continued engagement with the evolving universe.
