Vitré: Theatre Classes Open for School Years 2026-2027

March 23, 2026 Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor Entertainment

Classes designed to nurture young theatrical talent are now accepting applications in Vitré, France, for the 2026-2027 school year. The Conservatoire de musique et d’art dramatique de Vitré Communauté, in partnership with local schools, is offering specialized classes – Classes à Horaires Aménagés Théâtre (CHAT) – at both the Pierre-Lemaître primary school (starting in CM1, equivalent to fourth grade) and the Les Rochers-Sévigné middle school (starting in fifth grade).

The program aims to cultivate creativity, self-confidence, listening skills, and collaborative work ethic in students with an interest in the performing arts, according to a statement released by Vitré Communauté.

At the Pierre-Lemaître primary school, students will receive one hour and thirty minutes of weekly theatre practice, alongside thirty minutes dedicated to theatre studies. The curriculum also includes special events, workshops, and theatre outings throughout the year.

Applications for the primary school program must be submitted online at vitrecommunaute.org by April 10, 2026. Candidates will participate in a collective theatre workshop in May. A selection committee will convene on May 7th to review applications – there are sixteen places available – and families will be notified of admission decisions in June.

An information session for prospective students and their families is scheduled for Friday, March 27th, at 6:00 PM at the Pierre-Lemaître school.

The CHAT program at the Les Rochers-Sévigné middle school offers two hours of artistic instruction per week, supplemented by monthly theatre culture courses and practical workshops. Students will also have opportunities to attend master classes and six theatrical performances annually.

The deadline for online applications to the middle school program is April 30, 2026, via vitrecommunaute.org. A collective theatre workshop for candidates will be held on Tuesday, May 12th. Admission results will be communicated in early July.

An information session for the middle school program is also scheduled for Friday, March 27th, at 6:00 PM, at the Les Rochers-Sévigné school.

The Conservatoire de musique et d’art dramatique de Vitré Communauté, an establishment accredited by the French Ministry of Culture, serves the communities of Argentré-du-Plessis, Châteaubourg, la Guerche-de-Bretagne, and Vitré, offering musical and theatrical education to over 900 students from age four upwards. The conservatoire can be contacted at 02 99 74 68 64 or via email at [email protected].
