Taiwanese Pharmacist highlights Importance of vitamin D Supplementation, Offers Selection Tips
Taipei, Taiwan – Concerns about adequate vitamin D intake are growing, prompting pharmacist Zhao Shunrong to offer guidance on choosing appropriate health products. the recommendations come as awareness increases regarding vitamin D’s role beyond bone health, impacting cardiovascular function, immunity, muscle health, reproductive health, and brain health.
According to the 8th edition of the National Dietary Nutrient Reference Intake (DRIs) from Taiwan’s Ministry of Health and Welfare, adults should aim for 800-2000 IU of vitamin D daily, while infants and young children require 400 IU per day. The National Medical college IOM considers a daily intake of up to 4000 IU safe for adults, though monitoring 25(OH)D concentration and adjusting dosage is still advised.
Zhao Shunrong emphasizes proactive vitamin D management through sun exposure,diet,and supplementation. Regular blood concentration checks are recommended for long-term health protection.
