Filming Underway for Vigil Series Three with expanded Cast
Production has begun on teh third series of the hit BBC drama Vigil,with filming locations in svalbard and scotland. The six-part series is a World Productions ( Until I Kill You, Showtrial, Line of Duty ) production, part of ITV Studios, for BBC iPlayer and BBC One.
Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie will reprise their roles as DCI Amy Silva and DI Kirsten Longacre, respectively. This season’s storyline centers on the inquiry of a shooting death within a covert British special forces mission at a remote Arctic research station. Silva and Longacre must identify the killer and prevent an international incident fueled by competition for energy and resources in the changing polar climate, all while facing professional and personal challenges.
Returning cast members include Gary Lewis as Detective Superintendent Robertson,Dominic Mafham as Sir Ian Downing,and Orla Russell as Poppy,Amy and Kirsten’s daughter.
A significant new cast joins the production, featuring Jeppe Beck Laursen, Tornike Gogrichiani, Steven Miller, Benjamin Wainwright, Artur Zai Barrera, Jordan Duvigneau, Kaisa Hammarlund, Adam Fidusiewicz, Naomi Yang, eric Godon, Conor Berry, Amy Manson, Jason Tobin, Steven Cree, Killian Coyle, Derek Riddell, Alma Prelec, Dawn sievewright, and Shereen Cutkelvin.
The first series of Vigil, which premiered in 2021 and investigated a murder aboard a navy submarine, was a major success.It received a nomination for Best Drama Series at the 2022 BAFTA Television Awards and won the International Emmy for Best Drama Series. The second series, airing in 2023 and focusing on a drone attack, launched to nearly nine million viewers and ranked among the BBC’s top three most-watched dramas of the year.

The series is written and created by Tom Edge, with additional writing from Tom Mair and eve Hedderwick Turner. Marcus wilson is the producer,with George Aza-Selinger as associate producer. Executive producers are Jake Lushington (World Productions), Gaynor Holmes and Stephanie Fyfe (BBC), and tom Edge. Gareth Bryn and Faye Gilbert are directing. ITV Studios handles international distribution.
