Vertu AlphaFold: The New Luxury AI-Powered Foldable Smartphone

May 31, 2026 Rachel Kim – Technology Editor Technology

Vertu has officially unveiled the AlphaFold, a new luxury smartphone that incorporates a book-style folding design and a dedicated artificial intelligence interface. The device, which starts at a price point of $6,800, is positioned by the company to appeal specifically to business executives, and entrepreneurs.

The central feature of the handset is the integration of the “Hermes Agent,” an AI-driven system designed to manage user tasks, handle scheduling, and facilitate connections to enterprise-level software platforms. The deployment of this agent follows the company’s previous release of the “Agent Q” in late 2025, which Vertu marketed as an AI-focused device for the professional market.

The AlphaFold is constructed using high-end materials, reflecting the company’s ongoing strategy of blending traditional luxury aesthetics with contemporary mobile technology. While the brand maintains a heritage associated with British manufacturing, recent operational structures indicate that the company’s head office is located in Hong Kong, with assembly of the devices currently taking place in China. A company spokesperson has confirmed that despite the shift in manufacturing location, the handsets remain handcrafted.

The launch of the AlphaFold represents Vertu’s latest attempt to maintain a presence in the luxury mobile sector, a market it has occupied through various ownership changes since its origins as a subsidiary of Nokia in the early 2000s. The company continues to operate its own concierge services alongside its hardware releases, maintaining the premium service model that has historically defined its brand identity.

Vertu has begun promoting the device through global campaigns, including marketing tied to the 2026 World Cup, as it seeks to integrate its AI-powered hardware into the current competitive landscape of the smartphone industry.
