norris Corrects Verstappen: “Do Not Want Disinformation!” After Dominant Italian Grand Prix Win
Max Verstappen secured a commanding victory at the Italian Grand Prix, leading from the front after briefly relinquishing the position to Lando Norris at the start due to a slight off-track excursion. The win was widely considered well-deserved.
Verstappen’s performance was marked by a important pace advantage, culminating in a final gap of 19.2 seconds over Norris, who finished in second place. This margin represents the largest lead over the second-place finisher seen in Formula 1 this season.
A playful exchange occurred during the post-race press conference when Verstappen was asked about winning with a twenty-second lead. Norris quickly interjected, stating,”Were there not nineteen? I just don’t want disinformation! Nineteen,so.”
Once the correct figure was confirmed, verstappen elaborated on his race. “I want to say that it feels better than expected, but when I took over the lead again,I especially tried to focus on my pace.I kept going, and that whent pretty well. I started to struggle a bit on the medium tires in the last six to eight laps of that stint, but until then it was nice, for the first time in a while.”
He attributed the improved performance to progress with the car’s handling. “The car did more than I expected. It seems this weekend was another step in the right direction, particularly regarding the car’s behavior in the race. That was positive for us. Our strategy was also straightforward, moving from mediums to hards.”
Verstappen also pointed to McLaren’s strategy as a contributing factor to the ample lead. ”McLaren stayed out and gambled on a safety car, and I think that increased the gap more than it might have been. But it remains a fantastic weekend for us.”
