Valley City State University (VCSU) will showcase vocal talent from across the region this weekend with the Viking Voice Festival, culminating in two public concerts on February 27th and 28th. The festival, designed to provide a collaborative learning environment for high school vocalists, will feature masterclasses, individual lessons, and performance coaching, according to a VCSU announcement.
The festival concerts will be held at the Larry J. Robinson Center for the Arts. Friday’s performance, beginning at 7:30 p.m., will include the VCSU Concert Choir, the VCSU Opera Ensemble, and the Jamestown Community Women’s Choir. Solo performances will be given by Heather Hjelle, Dr. Stephen Cunningham, and Heather Aune. A Saturday matinee at 3:00 p.m. Will feature the Viking Voice Festival Choir in a program of ensemble pieces and student solo selections.
Both concerts will be live streamed via the VCSU Music Department’s YouTube channel, providing access for those unable to attend in person. The channel can be found at https://www.youtube.com/@valleycitystateuniversitym1972/streams.
VCSU’s music program has hosted similar events in recent years, including events noted in university publications on April 3, 2024, October 16, 2024, and September 11, 2024, though details of those events were not immediately available. The Viking Voice Festival represents a continuing commitment by the VCSU Music Department to engage with and support music education in the surrounding community.
