Vandalia, IL - Arnold Rivera, a 43-year-old resident of Vandalia, Illinois, is facing six felony charges in Fayette county Court following the death of his 14-year-old female family member, Kylie toberman. The charges include two counts of First-Degree Murder, two counts of criminal sexual assault, and two counts related to the concealment of a death.
According to court documents, Rivera is accused of strangling toberman with jumper cables. Each First-Degree Murder charge carries a potential sentence of 20 to 60 years upon conviction. The criminal sexual assault charges allege that Rivera abused a position of trust and supervision as a family member.
Authorities further allege that Rivera attempted to conceal the death by placing Toberman’s body in a tote and moving it from the original location in an effort to obstruct the investigation.

Recognizing the severity of the case, the Vandalia Police Department instantly requested assistance from the Illinois State Police (ISP) and the Illinois Child Death Investigation Task Force.
An extensive investigation quickly identified Rivera as a suspect. Vandalia Police apprehended him within hours of receiving assistance from the ISP. The ISP has confirmed they are aware of and investigating a related post circulating on social media.
During his initial court appearance, Rivera was appointed a public defender and was ordered to be held without bond at the Fayette County Jail. His next court date is scheduled for November 25th at 10:00 AM.
