illegal Gambling Crackdown in valledupar: Authorities Shut Down Unlicensed Slot Machine Operations
Valledupar, Colombia – A recent operation led by the fiscal and Customs Police, in coordination with the Sectional Directorate of taxes and Customs, has dealt a notable blow to illegal gambling activities in Valledupar. The crackdown, part of the broader “Anti-Contrabando Operational Plan,” targeted establishments operating slot machines without proper authorization.
Two unnamed commercial establishments were raided, revealing a total of 22 illegal slot machines in operation. Authorities found no documentation proving legal operation when questioned. This led to the arrest of two individuals facing charges related to the illicit exercise of monopolistic activity, as defined in Article 312 of the Colombian criminal code.
“We are committed to ensuring citizen security and peaceful coexistence,” stated Colonel Alex durán, Commander of the Metropolitan Police of Valledupar. “These operations are crucial in combating high-impact crimes and protecting our community.” The raids occurred in two neighborhoods within the city, catching the establishments actively serving customers.
Authorities estimate that each illegal establishment was generating over 30,000,000 Colombian pesos (approximately $7,500 USD) per month, effectively evading taxes and operating outside the regulatory framework established by Coljuegos, Colombia’s national gaming regulator.
Ongoing Efforts to Combat Illegal Gambling
This isn’t an isolated incident. Throughout the year, the Fiscal and Customs Police have conducted four separate control operations targeting illegal gambling establishments in Valledupar. These efforts have resulted in the arrest of four individuals and the seizure of 52 slot machines, with a combined commercial value of 74,513,244 Colombian pesos (approximately $18,628 USD).
The National police are urging citizens to report any suspicious activity related to illegal gambling or other crimes via the emergency line 123 or by contacting local law enforcement. This ongoing commitment to enforcement signals a determined effort to curb illegal activities and protect the economic interests of the region.
