Starbucks recorded its highest single-day sales of Valentine Cake Pops on Thursday, fueled by demand for the limited-edition treat and coinciding with the rollout of new matcha beverages, the company confirmed.
The Valentine Cake Pop, a vanilla cake confection dipped in red-chocolaty icing and decorated with a heart, has been available since January 6, according to Starbucks. Sales surged as Valentine’s Day approaches, with the company reporting unprecedented demand for the item. The cake pop is priced at $4.25 and contains 160 calories.
The sales boost comes as Starbucks simultaneously launched two new permanent matcha drinks – Iced Double Berry Matcha and Iced Banana Bread Matcha – on February 3. The company too introduced two Valentine’s Day-specific drinks: White Chocolate Strawberry Cream Cold Brew and Strawberry Shortcake Frappuccino, alongside a collection of themed drinkware.
The White Chocolate Strawberry Cream Cold Brew is described as a take on chocolate-covered strawberries, featuring vanilla syrup and White Chocolate Strawberry Cream Cold Foam, topped with chocolate curls. The Strawberry Shortcake Frappuccino combines strawberry puree and cinnamon dolce syrup, finished with whipped cream and a caramel-sugar sprinkle. Starbucks is also offering White Chocolate Strawberry Cold Foam as an add-in for any cold beverage during the promotional period.
According to a report from USA Today, Starbucks released the Valentine’s Day menu items and new matcha flavors on February 3, with the Valentine’s Day offerings available for a limited time whereas supplies last.
