Vacaville: Candidates Night for Solano County District 4 Seat
VACAVILLE – The Pleasants Valley Fire Safe Council will host a candidates night on April 13 for the District 4 seat on the Solano County Board of Supervisors, according to an announcement from the organization.
The event will feature Vacaville Mayor John Carli, Vacaville Vice Mayor Michael Silva, and Joshua (Juan) P. Desmarais, all vying for the position. The candidates will address questions related to fire safety and related issues impacting the region.
The Pleasants Valley Fire Safe Council (PVFSC) focuses on wildfire prevention and preparedness in the rural areas surrounding Vacaville and Winters, according to its website. The council aims to educate residents and assist them in hardening their homes and managing vegetation to reduce fire risk.
A Pleasant Valley resident, Leanne Stubblefield, recently addressed the Solano County Board of Supervisors, requesting information regarding the Vacaville Fire Protection District’s board appointments, consolidation plans, and volunteer stipend program. Stubblefield highlighted the district’s performance, noting approximately 700 calls for service last year, and credited a volunteer stipend program and an aid agreement with the Winters Fire Department for improved service levels. She also emphasized the importance of the district’s viability for local insurance rates, particularly in light of past wildfire experiences like the LNU Fire.
The PVFSC is also actively involved in community initiatives, such as a free Green Waste Recycling Day scheduled for February 28, 2026, in collaboration with the Solano Fire Safe Council. This event aims to help residents clear flammable vegetation from their properties.
The Board of Supervisors did not respond to detailed operational questions during the public comment period, but Chair Mashburn and Supervisor Vasquez were invited by Stubblefield to attend a Pleasants Valley Fire Safe Council meeting to discuss local concerns.
