Usyk Dominates Dubois in Title Defence, Fury’s Prediction Partially Accurate

Oleksandr Usyk successfully defended his unified heavyweight championship against Daniel Dubois, securing a victory that aligns partially with Tyson Fury‘s pre-fight predictions.

Dubois’s Championship Journey

Daniel Dubois has previously achieved significant success in the heavyweight division, overcoming opponents like Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgović to claim the IBF title. He also successfully defended his championship against Anthony Joshua in September of the previous year.

Tyson Fury’s Forecast

Tyson Fury had offered his prediction for the bout, stating, “I was the first to say that Dubois will win Joshua.” However, Fury expressed reservations about Dubois’s chances against Usyk, describing the Ukrainian as “a cunning and experienced boxer who works well with his legs and moves around the ring.” Fury elaborated, “Yes, if you stand in place in front of Dubois, you will be knockout.” He anticipated the fight would extend longer than it did, predicting, “After the 8th round, the fight will be over. I wish both boxers health.” The actual fight concluded in the 5th round.

Financial Stakes and Physicals

The heavyweight clash carried substantial financial rewards for both competitors, with reports indicating a shared purse exceeding $200 million. Oleksandr Usyk was set to earn approximately $133 million,while Daniel Dubois was projected to receive around $71 million.

At the weigh-in, Daniel Dubois tipped the scales at 110.59 kg, while Oleksandr Usyk weighed in at 103.1 kg. This marked Usyk’s heaviest career weight. the 7.49 kg weight difference between the two fighters was greater than in their previous encounter, where Dubois held a 5.44 kg advantage.

Physically, Dubois holds a slight height advantage over Usyk, standing at 196 cm compared to Usyk’s 191 cm. However, both boxers share the same reach of 198 cm.
