High-Level US-Ukraine Talks in Florida Deemed “Productive” as Path to Peace Remains Uncertain
FLORIDA – Top-level delegations from the United States and Ukraine concluded talks in Florida today, describing the consultations as “productive” despite acknowledging meaningful hurdles remain in ending Russia‘s war of aggression. The discussions, held November 30, 2025, focused on securing Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, and future prosperity, according to participants.
The US delegation included secretary Rubio, special envoy Witkoff, and President trump’s son-in-law Kushner. Leading the Ukrainian side was Rustem Umyerov, recently appointed head of the Security Council after serving as defense minister until July, replacing former chief negotiator Jermak who resigned amid corruption investigations.
Secretary Rubio emphasized that achieving peace is not solely about reaching agreements, stating there is ”still work to do” and that Russia’s inclusion in any lasting resolution is essential. He highlighted Ukraine’s economic potential, framing the talks as an effort to establish a path toward a secure and prosperous future for the nation.
The talks follow a series of consultations in Geneva where an initial 28-point US peace plan – previously criticized as aligning wiht Kremlin objectives – was significantly revised. The original plan reportedly called for Ukraine to cede crimea and other Russian-occupied territories, relinquish aspirations for NATO membership, and substantially reduce its armed forces. Moscow continues to demand the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from areas it claims.
ukrainian president Zelensky expressed optimism, stating he believes progress in the coming days is “quiet realistic.” David Witkoff is scheduled to travel to Moscow next week for direct talks with Russian President Putin regarding the ongoing conflict.
