USA Defeats Australia 2-1 in International Friendly
GLENDALE, Ariz. – Teh United States men’s national team overcame an early deficit to defeat Australia 2-1 in an international friendly at State Farm Stadium on October 14, 2025. Haji Wright scored twice, securing the victory for the U.S. ahead of their pre-World Cup training camp.
Australia took the lead in the 26th minute when Bos scored after a throw-in was misplayed by James Sands, beating goalkeeper Matt Freese. however, the U.S. responded quickly, with Wright leveling the score after a well-worked move involving Chris Richards, Roldan, and Weston McKennie.
Wright then secured the win for the Americans in the second half, capitalizing on a long ball from Roldan and finishing with a left-footed curl from 14 yards.
The match also saw christian Pulisic leave the field injured in the 26th minute after being tripped by Jason Geria, being replaced by Diego Luna. Goalkeeper Freese made crucial saves late in the game, denying Nestory Irankunda in the 90th minute and earlier stopping a point-blank shot from Luna in the 79th.
U.S. coach Pochettino made six changes to the starting lineup, including starts for Pulisic, Wright, Roldan, Sands, Mark McKenzie, and Alex Freeman. This victory extended the U.S.’s winning streak to two games, while Australia’s seven-game winning run came to an end. Australia had been unbeaten since a September 2024 World Cup qualifier loss to Bahrain.
The U.S. will now prepare for upcoming friendlies against Paraguay on November 18 and Uruguay four days later, followed by two more matches in March.
