USA Beat Australia 2-1 in Thrilling Soccer Match

USA Defeats Australia 2-1 in ‌International Friendly

GLENDALE, Ariz. – Teh‍ United ⁢States men’s national team overcame an early deficit to defeat Australia 2-1 in an international friendly‍ at State Farm Stadium on October 14, 2025. Haji Wright scored twice,​ securing⁢ the victory for the U.S. ⁢ahead of their pre-World Cup training camp.

Australia took ‌the‍ lead in the 26th minute when Bos scored after ‌a throw-in was misplayed by James Sands, beating goalkeeper‌ Matt ⁢Freese. however, the U.S. responded quickly,‌ with Wright⁣ leveling the score after a well-worked move involving Chris Richards, Roldan, and Weston ‍McKennie.

Wright then⁤ secured the win ⁤for the Americans in the second half, capitalizing on a long ball from ⁤Roldan and finishing ‍with ⁣a left-footed curl‍ from 14 yards.

The match also‍ saw christian Pulisic leave the​ field injured in ⁢the ‍26th minute after being tripped by Jason Geria, being replaced by Diego Luna. Goalkeeper Freese made crucial saves late in the ⁣game, denying Nestory Irankunda ⁢in the‍ 90th minute and earlier stopping a point-blank shot from Luna in the 79th.

U.S. coach Pochettino‌ made six changes to the​ starting lineup, including starts for ‍Pulisic, Wright, ⁢Roldan, ‍Sands,⁣ Mark McKenzie, and Alex ‌Freeman. This ⁣victory extended the U.S.’s winning ⁢streak to two games, ⁤while Australia’s seven-game winning ‍run came to an end. Australia had been ​unbeaten since a September ⁤2024 World Cup‍ qualifier loss to Bahrain.

The U.S.⁤ will now prepare for upcoming friendlies against Paraguay on November 18 and Uruguay four days later, followed by ⁤two​ more matches in March.
