ukraine War: ‌US Reaffirms Authorship of Peace Plan Amidst ⁢Senator Claims of Russian‍ Origin

Geneva – Fresh discussions surrounding a potential‌ peace plan for Ukraine are underway as the United States government insists it ⁤authored the‌ 28-point proposal, despite claims from a⁣ group of US senators that⁣ Secretary ⁢of State Marco Rubio indicated the plan originated ⁣with Russia. The conflicting accounts highlight internal discord within the governance ⁤regarding the path ⁤forward in the ongoing conflict.

Senators Mike ‌Rounds, a ⁤Republican on the Senate intelligence⁤ committee, and two colleagues reported speaking with Rubio while ⁣he was en route to Geneva. They⁢ stated Rubio told them the plan was not an American proposal, but a Russian initiative leaked by Moscow,⁤ intended for Ukrainian response and ‌negotiation. This directly contradicts the White House’s earlier statement that the plan was endorsed by President Donald Trump and developed by ⁢his⁤ officials.

Senator⁢ Rounds expressed concern that the leaked document’s language and structure appeared “Russian in nature.”‌ Rubio subsequently posted on⁣ social media, stating the plan⁢ was authored by ⁤the ‍US “based⁣ on input‍ from the ⁢russian side,” with “previous⁣ and ongoing ⁤input from Ukraine.”

A State Department spokesperson ⁢dismissed reports of non-US authorship as ⁤”blatantly ‌false.” The senators also ⁤indicated Rubio ‍was unaware of reported US threats to cut off⁣ intelligence and weapons support to Kyiv if they did⁣ not respond to the plan‍ by next Thursday.

The revelations suggest growing dysfunction within ‍the administration, prompting European leaders to bolster ‌support for Kyiv amidst perceptions of a potential shift in US policy towards Moscow.
