US-Israel Strikes: Iran Vows Retaliation – Global Concerns Rise

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

The United States and Israel launched widespread airstrikes against Iran early Saturday, targeting military and political leadership, according to statements from both governments. The coordinated assault, dubbed “Operation Epic Fury” by U.S. Officials, followed weeks of escalating tensions and repeated warnings from President Donald Trump regarding potential military intervention.

In a post on Truth Social, President Trump stated the operation aimed to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon and to “defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime.” He also urged Iranians to “capitalize on the attack as the only chance for generations” to overthrow their government. The strikes reportedly targeted Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other senior leaders in Tehran, as well as military sites in Isfahan, Karaj, Kermanshah, Qum, and Tabriz.

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council swiftly responded, vowing a “crushing response” to the attacks. Tehran initiated retaliatory missile strikes against Israel, and U.S. Bases across the Middle East, including facilities in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told NBC News that Iran was attacking military facilities and not “Americans in their land,” and expressed interest in de-escalation once the joint U.S.-Israeli strikes concluded.

The attacks represent an unprecedented escalation in the long-standing conflict between Iran, Israel, and the United States. According to the Atlantic Council, the campaign appears aimed at creating conditions for regime change in Iran through targeted killings, strikes on regime institutions, and attacks on strategic military infrastructure.

Multiple U.S. Allies in the region intercepted missiles targeting U.S. Bases on their territory, indicating the broad scope of Iran’s retaliation. The situation is further complicated by the fact that the strikes occurred after the latest round of talks with Tehran aimed at reaching an agreement to curtail Iran’s nuclear program had stalled.

Experts suggest the Iranian regime is under unprecedented strain, though the potential for the conflict to expand remains high. Some analysts caution that Iran could deliberately hold back some of its missile capabilities for a later stage of the conflict. The long-term implications of “Operation Epic Fury” remain unclear, with the potential to destabilize the region further and impact global security.

As of Saturday afternoon, the United Nations Security Council has not issued a formal statement, and diplomatic efforts to mediate a ceasefire have not been publicly announced. The U.S. State Department has not responded to requests for comment beyond President Trump’s initial statements.
