U.S. And Israel Launch Large-Scale Attacks on Iran, Sparking Regional Retaliation
Tehran, Iran – March 1, 2026 – The United States and Israel launched a large-scale attack on Iran on Saturday, February 28th, reportedly resulting in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Jamenei. The attacks, described by U.S. President Donald Trump as an operation to destroy Iran’s military capabilities and prevent the development of nuclear weapons, have triggered a swift and widespread response from Iran and escalating tensions across the Middle East.
According to reports, initial explosions were registered in the center of Tehran and spread to 24 of Iran’s 31 provinces. The Iranian Red Crescent reports over 200 deaths and 700 injuries as of Saturday night.
Iran has retaliated by launching missiles and drones against Israel, as well as targeting U.S. Military installations in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. An explosion was reported at the headquarters of the Fifth Fleet in Bahrain. The United Arab Emirates stated it “reserved the right to respond” to Iran’s retaliation.
The attacks come after increased pressure from the Trump administration on Tehran to limit its nuclear program, alongside a bolstering of U.S. Naval forces in the region. The U.S. Has utilized its numerous bases in the Middle East to launch the attacks, openly involving its allies in the region.
The situation remains volatile, with the potential for further escalation. There are concerns the conflict could expand to Yemen or Lebanon. Iran may be tempted to close the Strait of Hormuz and disrupt commercial traffic, potentially targeting U.S. Naval assets in the Gulf.
