US deploys USS Theodore Roosevelt to Middle East
The United States military has deployed the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt along with additional Marines to the Middle East, bringing the total potential concentration to three American aircraft carriers in the region by late October. The force movement follows failed diplomatic efforts to ease tensions and comments from U.S. President Donald Trump indicating a possible resumption of military operations against Iran.
The carrier strike group deployment involves over 7,000 sailors and 2,000 Marines. According to The Guardian, this concentration will place more than 20,000 American sailors and Marines, alongside hundreds of military aircraft, stationed across the Middle East. Pentagon sources told media that positioning another carrier grants Trump broader capabilities should a military operation against Iran proceed.
USS Theodore Roosevelt Arrives Amid Stalled Nuclear and Shipping Talks
The military build-up follows the collapse of negotiations in late September. President Trump rejected an Iranian proposal that offered to restore shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and resume talks over Tehran’s nuclear program in exchange for lifting the blockade on Iranian ports. In an interview with Time magazine published on Thursday, Trump did not rule out resuming and intensifying airstrikes against Iran following the U.S. midterm congressional elections on November 3. Trump stated that he rejected Tehran’s latest proposals because terms he would not have accepted a year ago remain unacceptable today.

On Thursday, Trump issued a direct warning to Iran regarding a September 30 incident involving a flydubai flight from Dubai that was diverted to Saudi Arabia following an in-flight emergency. Investigators are probing whether Tehran was behind the disruption. “They will be given a very strong blow. You can count on that,” Trump said.
Iran Prepares Retaliatory Strikes Against US Assets
Tehran has not issued an official public statement regarding the deployment of the additional U.S. aircraft carrier. However, Reuters reported, citing its own sources, that Iran is preparing stronger retaliatory strikes and a wider-scale war if the United States resumes aerial attacks on its territory. While diplomatic channels remain open, Iranian officials privately acknowledge that prospects for a breakthrough are minimal.
Sources indicated that Iranian military leadership is weighing targets that include American-associated assets, nations supporting U.S. military operations, and potential targets outside the Middle East. Tehran has also directed allied armed groups in Lebanon, Yemen, and Iraq to provide support if a large-scale military operation begins against the Islamic Republic.
Brent Crude Surges Past One Hundred Dollars Following Deployment
Energy markets responded immediately to the military movements and mutual warnings. Brent crude oil futures climbed 4.5 percent, reaching 102.5 U.S. dollars per barrel.
