US Air Force Honor Guard Performs at Musikfest der Bundeswehr in Germany
Twenty Airmen from the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard Drill Team performed at the Musikfest der Bundeswehr in Düsseldorf, Germany, on Sept. 19. The military event gathered more than 700 musicians, ceremonial units, and performers from Australia, Germany, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and the United States, drawing an estimated audience of 8,000 spectators across afternoon and evening sessions.
International Military Cooperation in Düsseldorf
The Musikfest started in Düsseldorf in 2017 as a family-oriented military gathering and has since been held eight times. This year’s installment placed international cooperation front and center, featuring joint formations of troops and musicians from multiple allied nations.
Senior Airman Antoine Lee, a U.S. Air Force Honor Guard ceremonial guardsman performing at the event, noted his personal ties to the host country. “It’s a great honor to represent the U.S. Air Force in an international performance,” Lee said. “I was born in Germany and have a German background, so it means the world to me to be on stage demonstrating international military cooperation.”
Building Trust and Interoperability Among Allies
“I believe these performances help enable interoperability between allied forces by familiarizing people from each country with one another and building trust and friendships through working toward a common goal,” Lee explained.
German Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Karlheinz Bolz, serving as an escort officer for the event, observed how the festival resonates with local families and international visitors alike. “When I come here, it feels like home,” Bolz said. “People come with their children and grandchildren, and they are proud to see the performers. We have people from many different countries standing together, but we are all human. I think that is what the Musikfest shows people.”
