Belgian Museum Celebrates a Century of Zetor Tractors
In the heart of Belgium, a unique museum showcases the history of Zetor tractors, attracting enthusiasts with its impressive collection and dedication to agricultural heritage. This fascinating exhibition, curated by a passionate collector, offers a nostalgic journey through the evolution of these iconic machines.
The Visionary Behind the Collection
The Zetor tractor museum in Houtvenne, Antwerpen, is the brainchild of Herman Michiels, now 65. His fascination with Zetor tractors began during his childhood, a passion ignited by his father’s purchase of a Zetor in January 1966.
Herman Michiels, a former entrepreneur, has an interesting past. He first worked as a welder when he was 18. Later, he started his own agricultural business. Now retired, he enjoys his hobby of collecting Zetors.
Seventy Restored Tractors on Display
The museum boasts a collection of approximately one hundred tractors, housed in a 2,000-square-meter hall on the outskirts of Booischot. Around seventy of these tractors have been meticulously restored.
The museum’s collection includes the initial Zetor 25 model, alongside Zetor Super 35, 50, and UR1 models, plus Zetor Crystal tractors. This collection provides visitors a comprehensive look at Zetor’s history.
Relics and Memorabilia
Besides the tractors, the museum exhibits promotion materials, operating instructions, and parts catalogs. Visitors can discover models, souvenirs, rare black and white photographs, and other unique treasures related to the Zetor brand. According to the Belgian Agricultural Association, there has been a 15% increase in tractor model restoration in the last five years (Source 2024).
A Unique Experience
The museum offers an excellent experience for old tractor lovers, with enamel tables, an old gasoline pump, and information boards. Comfortable film-watching areas and a small museum with tiny treasures are also available.
