UFMA Launches Free Digital Health Specialization for SUS Professionals
São Luís, Brazil – The Federal University of Maranhão (UFMA), in partnership with UNA-SUS, has announced a free online specialization course in Digital Health within the Unified Health System (SUS). The program aims to enhance the quality and efficiency of health services by equipping professionals with the skills to leverage telemedicine, data management, and other digital tools to address public health challenges and reduce regional healthcare disparities.
the 18-month specialization, delivered entirely online (EAD) with a 540-hour workload, is structured around three formative axes and will culminate in the mandatory completion and defense of a Course Conclusion Paper (TCC). All course activities will be hosted within a dedicated Virtual Learning Habitat (AVA).
A total of 1,000 vacancies are available to professionals currently working within the SUS, including managers, health workers, and IT specialists. The program also welcomes applications from individuals with higher education degrees outside of the SUS who have an interest in the field.
Vacancies will be allocated based on the Index of Digital Health Criteria (ICSD), taking into account the diverse macroregions of health across Brazil. The program prioritizes inclusivity, reserving quotas for Black candidates (Black and Brown), Indigenous people, Quilombolas, people with disabilities, transgender individuals, and those with low incomes.
Registration is open exclusively through the UFMA Selective System (https://seletivos.dted.ufma.br) from September 18th, 2025, to February 10th, 2025. Applicants must complete an electronic form and submit the following documents in PDF format:
* Photo ID (RG, CNH, Professional Council) or National Registration Migratory (RNM)
* CPF (if not included on the Photo ID)
* Copy of higher education diploma (front and back) – foreign diplomas require revalidation by a recognized Brazilian institution.
* Proof of current employment or institutional affiliation within the public health service, verified by a signed declaration from a supervisor or institutional manager.
This specialization represents a important investment in strengthening Brazil’s public health infrastructure through digital innovation. The program aims to build capacity within the SUS to effectively utilize technology for improved patient care and more equitable access to healthcare services nationwide.
