Beijing, China - A United Nations campaign has transformed a Beijing subway train into a moving platform for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), bringing the UN’s vision to an estimated 18 million commuters over the next year. The UN@80 subway campaign, launched in China’s capital, aims to highlight the relevance of peace, development, and sustainability in everyday life.
The initiative arrives at a critical juncture for global development. UN secretary-General António Guterres recently cautioned that only 35 percent of SDG targets are on track or making sufficient progress, characterizing the situation as a “global development emergency.” This campaign underscores a renewed push for collective action to accelerate progress toward achieving the 2030 Agenda.
Running through October 25, 2025, the branded subway train serves as a visible reminder that the SDGs are not abstract concepts, but integral to building a more just, inclusive, and sustainable future for all. The campaign is part of a larger UN@80 initiative in China, commemorating the institution’s 80th anniversary.
Images released by Beijing Subway show the train fully branded with UN@80 messaging. The UN hopes the campaign will foster a sense of shared obligation and inspire action towards the SDGs among the capital’s vast ridership.
